Set up branches, units and staff
Create the organisation structure first. Branches control reporting and visibility. Residential homes can add units, rooms and beds so shifts and occupancy make sense.

Use Create shift when a carer is working a duty block. Add the start/end time, unit, shift type, break duration and whether the break is paid. Long days and overnight shifts are supported.
Use Create schedule when a service user needs care at a specific time. Pick the carer, service user, day, start time, duration and visit type. These visits appear in the weekly rota and carer mobile app.
Before publishing, resolve unassigned visits, overlapping visits, absence clashes and travel gaps. Shift overlaps are also blocked when creating shifts for a carer.
Publishing makes shifts available for payroll readiness. Closed clock-in/out presence is preferred; if it is missing, payroll can use scheduled published shift time and clearly warn the reviewer.
Sarah works a 07:00-19:00 long-day shift on Riverside Unit with a 30-minute unpaid break. Inside that shift she may have a 09:00 personal care visit, 10:30 medication support and 14:00 welfare check. The shift frames the duty; the scheduled visits describe the care.
